“We had a dream of building the Kentucky Opry Theater, and that dream has prospered and has continued to grow for 37 years!”
– Clay Campbell
We moved to Kentucky Lake, in 1988, from Evansville, Indiana, with our three boys in tow: Clayton (7 years old), Cody (3), and Casey (6 weeks old). Clay had traveled the United States from 1969 to 1980 playing music with his band. During that time, we dedicated our lives to Jesus and started our family. When we arrived in Draffenville, it was after placing faith in God that our dream for a music venue could become a reality.
The Kentucky Opry began in a little Quonset hut building just three blocks from its current location. The original Kentucky Opry Theater seated only 100 people! The success was so great with Clay and his band of talented local singers and musicians that a new building was built with 300 seats, now located at its current location. The opening night of the newly built theater saw 600 people! To accommodate the growing crowds, more seats were added, and today the Kentucky Opry seats 537 people.
In 2010, Kentucky Lake Cowboy Church was formed; services are held every Sunday at 10:30 am, and everyone is welcome. The Theater has undergone several expansions and changes through the years, but what hasn’t changed is the growing number of talented Musicians gracing the stage. Over the last several years, the Kentucky Opry Theater has hosted national touring acts featuring comedy, magic, tribute, gospel groups, and country music stars such as Gene Watson, Aaron Tippin, Lorrie Morgan, and Jimmy Fortune. The Kentucky Opry provides clean, family entertainment year-round and hosts free monthly shows showcasing local Bluegrass, Gospel, and Classic Country music.
Please check the schedule on Facebook or KentuckyOpry.com to come see us sometime.
THANK YOU for being a part of our story!
